Half Staff

Flags are flown at half staff on Memorial Day till noon (Wiki didn't say why).
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and originated after the Civil War.

THE MILITARY AND CIVILIAN MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES:

The American Revolution  (1775 - 1783) Memorial is in Philadelphia.
25,000 soldiers lost their lives.
African American Civil War (1861 - 1865) Memorial, The Spirit of Freedom, commemorates the service of
209,145 African American soldiers and sailors who fought for the Union.  625,000 Americans were lost in that bitter fight.

World War I, (1917 - 1918), Memorial for the 116,516  Americans lost.

World War II, (1941 - 1945), Memorial. 405,399 Americans lost .
The World War II Memorial we're all familiar with and my favorite commemorative sculpture.

Korean War, (1950 - 1953), 36,516 Americans lost

Vietnam War, (1950 - 1953), 58,209 Americans lost.

At present there is no memorial commemorating the 258 who lost their lives in DESERT STORM, The Gulf War. Clink on link to read whats being done.

So far we've lost 41,936 in the on-ging WAR OF TERROR (Iraq and Afghanistan). A movie you shouldn't miss on this Memorial Day is Taking Chance: Home with Kevin Bacon. Have Kleenex close by.

American Military Casualties of all the wars from 1775 to the present total: 1,343,812. The total of dead and wounded is 2,489,335 with 38,159 missing in action.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE SERVED. IN THIS AGE, THERE ARE NO UNKNOWN SOLDIERS:
