Guilty!

...Of dipping into the paint without rinsing--of falling back to my perfectionist tendencies when I was just doing a sketch. It's so hard to teach a designer new tricks. The precision required in drafting plans for something someone will build is totally wrong when flinging expressions in paint. Yet, I started in on those mice two days ago like I was going to build an armature and sculpt them. It was the laundry room assignment that made me rigid. I realized this yesterday when I handed off the remodel project to the client and got back to my mice. They looked like rigor-mortis had set in! I had drawn them precisely in pen. I immediately began messing them up. The cobalt looks the worst for wear. The Red doesn't look real good either. And all that scrubbing I did in the studio this last summer...

Yes, my pottery-class-reject Zac is definitely my grandson. Yes, I should be given a long time out (if anyone around here cared). But I don't. Today the spray bottle comes out and the painting goes flat on the floor where I can control the run-in and put some observation distance between me and it. Someone said a painting should pull the viewer across the room. The paintings that grab me from a distance are lively, exhilarating, not at all neat and the artist didn't paint them with her nose glued to the support that's for sure.

I messed around with my laundry again adding marker and pastels. This is the whole drawing minus a couple slashes of black I added to break up the light blue at the base after I photographed. (yes, my perfectionist isn't quite dead yet):

NOTE #1: I delivered my precise space plan to laundry room lady yesterday afternoon. She's consulting her mate. I was in a paint-free outfit--complete with waistband and matching shoes--for a couple of hours. They were pure agony. Picasso painted bare-chested in shorts; he's my kind of guy.

NOTE #2: My Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter cactus has added another bloomin' holiday: Halloween! --Have a happy, safe weekend. Above all be careful carving those pumpkins; your hands are gold!

  1. She's 'consulting'? in other words she has her defense ready for whether she wants it or not.. lol... What grabs my eye on any art is color or the lack of... simple clean lines.. less is more ...I always look for the unusual-something most wouldn't gravitate to.

  2. Most couples operate as a team Chris. It has been my experience that expenditures in the thousands are usually discussed by the co-owners of the property. Nothing unusual here. I'm just glad the ball's in somebody's court other than mine and I'm back in my jeans. LOL.

  5. Hi Linda.
I not only get a kick out of your wonderful paintings, I also get a kick ( Laugh ) out of your stories, their brilliant. The cakes are coming along nicely and the Laundry is also. Well done again Linda. All the best.

  6. Honey and I were try to recall if we wore warm up clothes around the house years ago. At first I said no and he agreed. We both could remember not having time to change our clothes; we were too busy picking up from sport practices or the pizza. Then we remembered photos with him in blue and gray and me in something white with brass buttons...so I guess we're pretty used to elastic waists and easy fabrics when we're home. With our offices at home these years, we balk at those times where more structured garb is called for. As far as we're concerned Agnes, Casual Friday should be all week long.

  7. Thanks Victor. I don't know how brilliant my stories are, they're just pathetic tales from the life of a woman who has decided in her last quarter to poke whatever artistic talent she was gifted with and didn't have time to pursue till she discovered her vulnerability. And that's the truth. --Meanwhile I'm having trouble with my computer and I'm going to see if rebooting the whole system will speed things up? OMG!

  9. I like the sounds of the spray bottle. I identify about comfortable clothing. Years ago I started wearing Hanes black sweatshirts coupled with blue jeans. I wear that uniform quite constantly--I am certain I look sort of nutsy. ...I used to be a dresser-upper. Now when I dress up it is a drag! Give me my sweatshirt! haha. Looking forward to seeing your revamped painting. :)

  10. Me too Celeste, and I thought I'd be finished with that by now, but the weekend was wild--a bout of food poisoning and a sudden, mysterious eye affliction that turned Monday into a standing room only affair in a couple of doc's waiting rooms in my uniform: Niki winter weight workouts, tank top and safari jacket--not the chicest but the most comforting.

I call the clothes that pull on easily dorm clothes--that means it's an outfit one can jump into in a flash, look dressed, but not really, and head down to the cafeteria for what they called dinner.Back in college, I had a dorm skirt. Now I favor dorm pants--they have an elastic waste that lets you breath, but fit good in the tusch and thighs. They're black of course with tiny specks of paint, others can hardly notice, but I see and do recall what painting they came from.
