Rain On Deck

Rain on deck yesterday. Rain on deck today. Dampens the spirits I can tell you. I had a pretty fair drawing going here till I poured myself another cup of coffee, knocked it into the decorative bowl in the middle of the table exploding coffee droplets onto the water soluble markers muddying down the highlights. What can you do, but go with it. It was raining--not rain you know, not pennies from heaven, just coffee, blotted, dried then streaked with colored pencil and pounced on with pastel droplets. Shift happens. It's not as blurry as I would like, but it's just a sketch. There's a painting in here somewhere--if someone was so moved.

It's difficult getting back to drawing after time off. Yesterday I sat around all day guilty I wasn't down in the studio;I had time. I was busying myself making Lentil Spaghetti Sauce to stock the freezer, while hanging out waiting for the Fed Ex guy and my new credit card. It seems some thief stole my number on my many jaunts out shopping this last month and bought himself a few video games on line, the punk. I let stuff like that come between me and my studio, which tells me clearly I'm not really an artist, just a hobbiest. There's a part of me that's sad about that. But then there's the part of me that knows for sure I'm not cut out for all the alone time.

  2. No just coffee spots dragged.

Lentil spaghetti sauce is heart smart.High fiber/high protein, 150 calories per 1/2 cup with 1 1/2 ounces of whole wheat spaghetti. Excellent low fat, low salt meal. Add more low sodium, chicken broth or tomato juice to the batch and you have lentil soup. It's a good quicky to have on hand.

  3. Exploding coffee droplets? Cool. You're right. Go with it.

What happened to your comment yesterday? It just disappeared while I was answering. Mystified. Have a great day.

  4. Hey Bill, I trashed my comment because I thought I had run off on the keyboard on your fabulous studio. You would never had known, if I could have trashed it permanently; but I wasn't given that option.

  5. Darn right Crissy. The first cup of coffee in the AM is th best BUT not when you're such a clutz with it that you splash it all over a drawing. The drawing was going along pretty nicely before I did that, but not as terrific as the great painting idea I got from doctoring it up and then playing with it in Photoshop. Who can tell where the next good idea is going to come from?

  6. I bet if u had played w/it more you wouldn't have to use photoshop...I learned a lot from that site... I did learn the more water u add, u can lift the color up to the original w/out it looking awful...

  7. Not worth the effort. This drawing, like the pansies was just getting started again. From here I'll keep going till I find something worth spending some time on.

  8. I feel the same way. After a week without painting....I lose a lot of confidence, feel rusty, and forget I know how to paint. Sorry to hear about for credit card. The top painting is really nice, reminds me of the Marc Chagall stained glass at the Art Institute of Chicago!
