Warm-up Sketches

I just added the finishing touches to this sketch of my granddaughter (several years younger than she is today). The drawing measures 6 3/4" x 6 3/4" and I added the picture frame from the Jasc photo album menu for presentation purposes.

The drawing is done in colored pencil. I'm not totally happy with it, but it was just a "warm up" sketch for a larger piece I have in mind. Warm up sketches help me learn which points, planes and measurements are crucial for achieving a likeness.
They are "get acquainted" drawings.

A reader pointed out to me that I haven't said how big or small my art work is. She thought my "Winter" painting,(yesterday's post), was card size when it's actually is quite large done on a 30" x 40" studio wrapped canvas, 1 1/4" thick. The stretchers being "studio wrapped" eliminates framing; it can be hung on the wall as is.I like that. I'm saved a lot of bother and expense.
