Taking Time to Heal.

Sketching a little while I recuperate, but mostly watching old movies and icing after intense Physical therapy sessions.    Drawing takes second place.  Limbering up the knee and building strength is the priority.

  1. Wonderful sketch! Keep sketching and resting Linda! When my friend went to therapy it was tough but it got better and better. She had both knees done. She walks now....the doctor told her not to stop walking because she's doing so well. Take care. 💕

    1. That's the script: keep moving! Stretching. Last knee op, I was three years younger. In three years, my tolerance for pain has diminished., but I hate taking pain pills. They make you foggy. I imagine in 3 more weeks I'll be fine. That's when I see the doctor. Till then PT, PT, PT.

  3. What a price this knee is costing you in terms of pain and loss of painting time. I'm really hoping you'll be back to your usual dynamic self pretty soon ... meanwhile I'm enjoying your delightful sketches they are really hitting the spot with me. When you talk of icing I am reminded of the mouth-watering paintings you did of iced cake ...even if I'm on a diet (more healthy eating than a diet). Don't overdo it m'lady ... slowly, slowly catchee monkey!

    1. I love those paintings! That's why few others do. They were fun. They satisfied my sweet tooth.

I had to do this knee and be done with knee issues once and for all. People walk around on bum knees for years in pain. Why not walk around in the same pain knowing this pain will be the end of it? The other just keeps getting worse. The op is a step forward. Cortisone shots are a side step backward. Thanks John. (Going to physical therapy three times a week, an hour and a half sessions, I've lost ten pounds! I intend to get back to my fighting weight when I'm back cycling round the neighborhood. Good luck to you on your quest).

  4. It's good to keep sketching, they are all great. And I'm glad to hear it is a step forward. Next week my first appointment with my orthopedic surgeon and very curious to know what the options are here in the Netherlands.

    1. Here the treatment was cortisone shots every three months for however long they took care of the pain. At first I was having a shot every five months, the, over the three year period, the shots got closer together till it was up after two and a half months. It was time. A CTscan confirmed I was eligible for a partial replacement. My bones were healthy, just the cartilage was eaten away. The procedure is called Makoplasty. A robot guided by the procedure certified surgeon cleans the area and applies a man-made cushion where the cartilage was. The incision is closed and glued and there you go! A full recovery takes 12 weeks. The first week a Physical therapist comes to the house three times. The second week I went to the physical therapy facility. I am in the third week. I will be doing PT till they say I'm done. I have been walking since the hospital--first using a walker, then with a cane. I was on the cane by the second week and walking the stairs. I can't drive until I am off the pain killer and the doctors says. I had my right knee done, the one that does the gas and break pedals. Good luck to you. In the end, all knee problems are gone. I cannot wait. I waited too long.

    1. Just read this comment. Sorry John. I have mostly been healing. Knee surgery recovery takes 12 weeks. I am in week 9 wondering when the aching will stop? Back in the studio, I have mostly massacred an old painting in an effort to get to what I was after when I started it. In the Sketchpad, there are a few done over this recuperation period, but not many. My most serious objective has been walking, climbing, dancing, stooping as I did before all knee concerns. That goal requires concentration on strengthening muscles, massage and icing. How's your boat coming? I haven't checked your new blog recently because, in the middle of my knee recovery, my son was married and being the mom of the groom I had to partake in the celebration.
