Art is for Others To Decide

With a good night sleep and hope for brighter tomorrows, I took a look through my watercolors. The paintings looked so happy, energetic and alive. All had been done for fun, playing around with color and water. No prethinking. No preliminary drawing. No fancy watercolor tricks; I don't know any. Never did. I want to do more like this--using that no method method. The art in these is for others to decide.

  1. Art of not, the no method method is the most enjoyable way of painting in watercolor in my opinion. These really look joyful! Good to hear you had a good night sleep!

    1. Mine too. Watercolors allow us to "paint as children." Just arose from my second good night's sleep. The rest helps a lot. Thanks Judy.

  2. Utterly compelling, I can see the attraction, how to not get bogged down by preconceived notions is the difficult bit!

    1. Not being at all serious about watercolor, I can't get bogged down by preconceived notions. Preconceived notions would, though, bog you down no matter what medium. Get rid of them. Here's a pun: Go with the flow! 😃

    1. Thanks Roger. ,mi like them all, but the one that strikes me as the funniest is the one in the middle. The subject was the foodstuff in my refrigerator drawer. I stood in front of the open door of the refrigerator, pulled open the vegetable drawer and painted the still life within. This painting makes me chuckle.

    1. Being attempted with no idea of how I want them to look, they are happy. I think that's why I went back to the watercolor picture file To find something to put in this post that's upbeat. My watercolors have a happy-go-lucky feel to them because that's how I felt doing them.

    1. HAD FUN back when I painted them. Not so much fun being had now. I'm just sitting and waiting for that damn bus to come take me back to myself. It gets closer everyday., but the ride is bumpy. Looking through my watercolors delighted me. In watercolor, I seem to know when to stop.

    1. "Fun" suggests frivolous play, but to me it means a lighthearted way to pass the time, unencumbered by rules. Go with your heart. These were done that way and I like what I saw when I saw them in my photo files, the closest I can get at the moment to my art. But: two weeks down of recovery period and only four more to go! "Only" is a very sad word in that last sentence.

    1. Thanks Victor. A lot of painting is about color particularly these watercolors--Flowers, The Veggie Drawer; Carousel Pony.

  8. Hi, Linda - your have the gift of creativity and originality and these old watercolors illustrate that well. Soon that creative spark will overpower you and you will be back at the easel. No doubt you are giving your body and spirit the time they need to recover and get healthy again.

    1. Thanks Susan. I probably should have titled them to clue folks in to what the impressions are. The flowers are readable, but the veggie drawer and carousel may not be. All were an hour or two. All were light hearted with no pretensions.

Yes, I am recouping. I'm not good at this laying around stuff, but this op was the biggest body invasion I ever experienced. I have no other choice. The body is healing and the mind is going stir crazy. I really have not felt like picking up any drawing tool. So I look at the past. The past gave up these watercolors and suggested I fool around with them again in the future.
