A Driving Fete; A Construction Fete

An awesome structure!  An awesome drive for strangers to this part of the country.  An awesome workout for two seniors who sat on the couch all winter.  These are Bing images; mine will show up after I'm sitting back at my computer.  This made the cool weather worth it. Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, being close to Boulder City, is an awesome engineering construction located on the border  between Nevada and Arizona. Unfortunately, in these times, Lake Mead's water table is down 14%. All the more reason to stay in Michigan. Fresh water will be the most precious commodity in the future. I'm looking forward to reading the history this afternoon poolside. I'm curious about the  amount of electrical power this dam generates.

  1. Wow! Great photos. My wife and I went out there and took photos of the Dam, but nothing like these. We also walked through the inside sections and learned a great deal about the history of the magnificent work. Lake Mead is also beautiful, and I am sorry to hear the water table is down. Indeed, fresh water is a huge problem facing us in the future. I am certain the problem could be resolved if we worked on it today. I'm not sure about the amount of power generated, but I seem to recall it was tremendous and vital to the American West.

  2. Catching up with your posts - and whew! - I am exhausted now! You are a whirlwind and I will try to catch my breath for a moment to wish you a very happy 55th anniversary! What a huge accomplishment that is and iIt looks like you and Ellis are having a wonderful celebratory trip. I am in complete agreement with your comment that water will be the most precious commodity in the future. Here in Reno, we are in a severe drought. The water level in Lake Tahoe is severely down and the Truckee River, which runs through downtown Reno, is now barely a trickle. We are voluntarily reducing water usage - if the drought does not end, I am sure it will no longer be voluntary.
