The New Alpha Bitch

Whatever Lola Wants, the bitch gets. (Reference Photo)

Brutus growled and barked
 for the first time.
Mr. Fuzzy couldn't be found.
Smart cat.
While most Folks around were talking about the bird, we had a canine Thanksgiving.  Brutus, the sweetest pit bull  was there; he lives there along with  Chanel, the  Purse Dog without a purse.  Mr. Fuzzy Pants, the fancy cat,  and  Lola, the beautiful but  ultra hyper Husky/Doberman pup were guests for the weekend. Patricia, the boa constrictor, wasn't invited, nor were the tortoises.  They were not missed; they're just dull.

Lola's, however, sparkled. She totally dominated the scene--took right over.  No one could get a word in besides "Lola, NO!"  The large, still growing, one year old couldn't sit for longer than a second. She was a whirling dirvish and very vocal, a possible candidate for Lederman's stupid pet tricks.  If held, she'd nip or bite. She was a law suit waiting to happen for her Omega owner who loves her way too much to scold.  Eventually, thank The Lord, she peed the floor and was vanquished to her crate. Ignoring remorseful cries, the holiday became a holiday--except, What to do with the Alpha bitch dominated everyone's conversation.  Ritalin came to mind.

First pass drawing in the peace of early morning. Thirty minutes with Lola--on paper, okay, in the fur, exhausting.

    1. Thank you. We got to come home. My poor son had to put up with a houseful of dogs.

  2. And I thought I had a menagerie! Boa constrictors and tortoises? Lola sounds like a handful - no, more like a monster-in-the-making. I have found Cesar Millan's books and methods to be invaluable in understanding and training Maggie.

    1. I'm going to send the books--whether they get read is not up to me--horse to water. But Lola is a beauty. This reference would be a challenging watercolor.

    2. ... and I would happily accept the challenge! :)

    3. Feel free to give her a try. Her markings and colors are beautiful. I leave animal subjects to you. I'm a people person.

  3. Doggon it.

Never replaced my dogs when they went to the happy hunting ground, Rather glad we didn't having Lola remind me of what I could be missing.

    1. Us too. Our one dog was dog enough. I obviously have no regrets. :-)). My son was visiting the city on an errand. I asked him to spend the night, but Brutus couldn't come. We had just had the carpets and upholstery cleaned. He refused my invite; he had to go home to walk/feed the dog. A dog runs your life. No thank you. But I did enjoy having one when we did, but then we were five in the house--there was always someone home. Cats are more carefree if you need company.

    2. Winston Churchill said that he wouldn't have a cat, as they look down on us. He wouldn't have a dog, as they look up to us. He would however, have a pig ... as they treated us like equals!

    3. George Vlooney had a pig. They are very smart and very clean--and now I know they have the right attitude.

  4. Dogs are great--but I have to admit, I am very happy to (now) be a cat person. Luckily for me, my cats are quite dog-like (they are big and bold) AND I don't have to walk them! I love your animal drawings here. You absolutely caught the alert look that Lola has going on there!

    1. I love to watch cats and am jealous that you have one to draw; they are fascinating, perfect subject for charcoal or watercolor. But I am allergic to their dander. I can only take a half hour before my head plugs up. I would still get one, ( and a lot of sinu-tabs), if anything ever happened to Ellis God Forbid. And they are smart. Mister Fuzzy Pants pranced royally into the house and quickly disappeared as Lola bounded past her. We never saw him again.

  5. The are all beautiful, sensitive and with great fluidity of line. Bravo!
I am too old to miss "active" dogs, but still dearly miss my faithful companion (dog) who
    passed almost a year ago.

    1. That won't go away. They live in your heart. I miss my Tony Tulips, a over-sized black Labrador, still. Every time I make meatballs I get the impulse to toss one over my shoulder to hear his chomp as he jumps in the air. ( I can't entice Brutus to jump, but he will take a meatball). But big dogs need big training--hardlove and even obedience school. Owners have a responsibility to keep them safe starting by teaching them acceptable behavior in our world. Unfortunately, my granddaughter will learn that the hard way.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed my holiday tale. Lola has one more year of puppy, then maybe she'll calm down? When our dog was a pup, he shredded the whole garden including pulling down two ten foot purple plum trees. He ate pic cushions and LP records and anything left out unattended. He also bolted out the door frequently. I got a lot of exercise running after him while the neighbors hid behind their doors terrified. I swore I was going to donate him to the Seeing Eye Dog Association, but then he turned two and suddenly sat when I said sit, laid down when I said down. He never got on the furniture because I never sat with him on my lap while I sat on the furniture. He never jumped on people. When he was a pup jumping on everyone, I would grab his front paws and walk him backward on his hind legs; dogs don't like that. Tony Tulips was a125 pound Black Labrador Retriever, too big to let him just grow. I loved him dearly. I didn't want another dog after he died.

    1. Maybe the wild look in her eyes was the wild look in my eyes ? She was one big handful, but very entertaining.
