A Little less; A Little More And Bingo!

A little less color was had with a little more "black" added to Spring

A little more density was had with more  deeper colors added to Fall.
Winter at a healthy weight

Summer at a healthy weight

ALL FOUR CORNERS OF MY FOUR SEASON PAINTING WILL STAY DOWN NOW THAT THEY WEIGH THE SAME. With multiples balance is everything.

I knew I'd have to go back into these things, that's why I left them propped against the wall so long. Well, their weights have been evened off and their edges have been painted mahogany--actually a mix of umbra, alizarin and dioxinine. Tomorrow or later, I am going to oil them out.  I like that process. It gives a nice oil painting finish. Then I'm going to hang them. In a month, I'll varnish to ward off dust. polishing silver is easier than bringing a painting to its finished state. I'll photograph them when they're mounted on that Chinese red wall upstairs. After that I'll stop boring you to death; I promise.

  1. These are simply stunning. Such expression and freedom! I'm very impressed. Beautiful. :) And not boring at all! ;)

    1. Thank you Crystal. The first finish of these was in February when I was swept off to portraiture by a commission that changed my direction. Your portraits--and sketches-- are stunning. I only hope I can get where you are. I do think that the months I've spent learning that every dab in a portrait has significance, helped me come back to these a lot freer with my brush and contributed to getting the overall look I wanted. Portraiture is a marvelous discipline.

    1. It hasn't been a year Bill! I First-Finished Winter in February. You've just seen them a lot and it seems like you've been seeing them forever. LOL. But this is it. I've talked Ellis into hanging them. Nailing them up on the wall will end these reoccurring dreams.

    1. Thank God. But they are done. I think the red wall is going to gray them down? With all the pure colors in dabs and dots and streaks in one composition the over all sense is gray--according to Johanne Itten. I'll publish a picture. There should be some yelling first as Ellis and I dicker over level, straight and how high? For someone married to an artist, he sure hates putting nails in his walls.

    1. Thanks Julie. You are a gal who knows about color. I still like that thin red orange line in that bowl, very memorable painting.
I am anxious to see how relatively pure colors all mixed up are going to show against that Chinese red. Backgrounds have a tremendous effect--I don't recall any red walls in our museum or any other museum I've visited. Hmm.

    1. Thank you Gabriella. I hope so. They sure did take some time. This is the second Fall I painted. I painted a first one, but it wasn't right--it wasn't bad, but it didn't fit. I should have put it aside and got a new canvas, but instead I took all the paint off and started again. That was a mistake, but easy come, easy go. --Don't believe it.

  6. They all look vivid. Will you display them on the blog, as hung in your house? I'd like to see that.

    1. I'm worried about how they are going to hold up against the wall. The wall could win. But Ellis won't care if they are grayed down, he thinks they are a bit over the top too colorful.
The reproductions here are not exactly color correct. Reproducing them, I wasn't really interested in getting their exact color, but rather seeing their weight. They weigh the same. They're a set.
Next I'm going to paint four Four Season's Hotels. They're got to be easier.

  8. Thanks Hilda. They did take me a bit of time with one false start discarded and another launched, but all four are done at last and on their way to their display place.
