I threw out the roses. And I'm reading a book that makes me think of art as merchandise--a product to be promoted and marketed. Dirty words to me for years. Business words. Policies and paper work,supplier hunts and sales mishaps--the stuff of W-O-R-K. The stuff of a thing called a J-O-B. So I ran away from those thoughts and retrieved the roses and painted them again this morning to warm-up. I think I like this rendition the best. Back to the portrait this afternoon. Got a good charcoal drawing yesterday, much better than the first. I'm starting to get a feeling for the subject.

ReplyDeleteThanks Ann. I think so too. I am a pushover for wet into wet. With this one, I did the draw in with a paper towel on a very wet wash. Made me think about designing a subtraction tool.

Victor I think perseverance is synonymous with talent. That's why daily painting is so very important. That's why daily piano practice and sports practice and whatever-you-wish-to-do well practice is so key to the quality of performance. Whoever said "the road to success is lined with failures" knew what she was talking about. --maybe it was Thomas Edison without whom we'd all be painting in the dark.

ReplyDeleteHow to Market and Sell Your ART, MUSIC, PHOTOGRAPHS, and Handmade Crafts ONLINE by Lee Rowley, Agnes. Amazon gave it four and a half stars. And actually, aside from getting too hung up with the graphic capabilities of my computer not being a geek, the book does help outline a logical business plan.
ReplyDeleteAfter making my living for so many years in Design/build and keeping my art as a "hobby." (I really hate that word; art means so much more to me). The idea of changing an activity I love into a J-O-B horrifies me--BUT given the state of the union and in particular the housing market--the fact is I want an entrepreneurial J-O-B that could bring in some cash flow.
