Prediction: A Snowy Winter

"Winter" got snowier. I'm still playing with composition--less break ups, more open space. I took out a tree or two and may take down a few more? I'm minimizing the dead grasses in the foreground, but not entirely;I have foreground foliage in the sister paintings.

I'm also still playing with the palette. I've added burgundy and red oxide. I'm contemplating a bit of grayed blue violet. I want to warm up the scene, which will make the painting a fantasy. Winter in Michigan is very gray,(the reason I will not buy a gray or white or black car). The reference photo is gray. There are very few sunny winter days, yet this painting needs sun, if it's to relate to the other three seasons, where yellow is a connective. The snow isn't a vibrant white/Cadmium Yellow light yet,but I'm headed that way with just a whisper of purple to gray it down of course. No pure colors in this one. The great thing about acrylics is the paint can be removed and areas can be corrected.

  4. What makes it interesting Hallie? It seems a bit lame to me--has stuff on it I should have been doing years ago.

  5. I like it a lot Linda.
I wouldn't buy a grey car either, they are practically invisible!

  6. That's exactly how I feel Agnes. In mid-winter with gray skies, colorless landscape, a gray car is depressing as hell--it just fades away. On a foggy day.... So what color is my car? A charcoal midnight blue--dark enough not to be the dead color of black, blue enough not to be considered gray. Purple and Red--unless it's a deep burgundy--are out of the question--much too flamboyant. My favorite color car was spruce green--that was a black green with a luggage, not beige, interior.
