It Didn't Rain

It didn't rain over the weekend, but I found this shot of a downpour and a surprisingly close up shot of my Christmas/Thanksgiving/Easter cactus (it blooms all those holidays) on my memory card after coming back from stalking Fall in the woods behind the house. I like the washed out, (I couldn't resist the pun),pale colors and the subtle striped/grid pattern in the rivulets of rain streaming down the windowpane. I like the blackness of the macro shot. I don't recall what I was doing by that plant at the time, but I really was into it. Both these photos intrigue me and I can see them as future paintings. Bonus shots aside, I failed at my real mission.I didn't come across a decent shot of Fall for the Four Seasons quadtyck on my back burner. It's only the first week of the season with the temps still in the fifties at night, I've got time.

Sweet Choices is nearly finished. I've got the cards left to paint telling how much and whether it's a tort or a tart or pie or danish. I learned something with this one: It seems that if I'm painting on structured canvas, no matter what the thickness of the stretcher bars, I don't sketch, I paint and it takes some time. For me sketches fast and are on paper. --And something else: If I have any plans of making pastries on display shelves a triptyck, the order of the painting stack must follow the light pattern that would exist in the case, i.e. the farther removed from the light source, the darker the painting. Ain't going to be easy. Might have to be out and about with my camera again? I think I took this shot in Greek Town downtown?

And that was the weekend that was except: like a dummy I stuck my sinus allergy nose right into the middle of a fragrant new wild flower I came across and got instant headache, a bummer headache. It sent me home to watch Bridesmaids which made the headache worse. Who ever said that was a good movie was out of their mind.

DO NOT STICK NOSE INTO THESE AROMATIC WILD FLOWERS EVER!

  1. That window/water shot is truly amazing--thought it was a painting. It's very instructive in terms of color mixing--Look at all the color in it. And the 'brushwork' is engaging. It's making me want to paint!

  2. How is that for a challenge with greens Bill! I had forgotten I had taken the shot through my window last week. It was a real bonus. The other one interests me too. It reminds me of strings of chromosomes. I like fussing around with toned blacks ala Rauchenberg's black paintings. Black is such a silly no-no for so many artists.

  6. If you knew about the headache you would get, you'd avoid this one Agnes. Aside from rinsing my sinuses, taking a Zyrtec, I had to put hot compresses on my head. Horrible. --They would look good in a dried flower arrangement though.

  7. I saw Bridesmaids on the plane - I wonder why it was highly reviewed. It was a bit overdone to me.

The wash out pale colours :) - nice... both the pun and the photo.

  8. I'm so glad you agree about Bridesmaid Evelyn. I was telling my PT trainer how over-the-top and silly the movie was and she suggested I was too old of this movie LOL! I don't think so; I think I'm too smart and I like to think the rest of my gender is too--EXCEPT for this one woman I guess.

I'm still learning the capacity of my L120 Nikon. The one thing I don't like about it is it doesn't have a memory card. You have to hook the camera up to your computer to transfer pics and turn it on. Then I've gotten hung up organizing the new entries and have forgotten to turn the camera off for a while, so the batteries go dead quicker than my Minolta where all I have to do is extract the memory card. It's always something. But the pic was interesting, so thanks.

  9. The beautiful effect of rain in the green, a true work of art created by nature and your photograph.
Your paintings are very original with the cakes, I like this idea.
    Excuse my English.
Thanks for the visit and beautiful comment, you are a very sensitive person.

  11. Oh, I've never come across a new camera with no memory card...but then it's not like I have bought so many. I am sure you will get the hang of it.

  12. I've got the hang of it--I just don't think I like it. Having to turn the camera on to transfer the pictures and then remember to turn it off is one step towards more complicated.
    Life is complicated enough Evelyn.
