O'Brian's on the Fifty First

I took two very poor photographs of our favorite seafood joint Tuesday night when we went out for an anniversary celebration. They were lousy pictures because I didn't think, I just snapped hurriedly without making the proper adjustments. Truth was I didn't even think to stop and set the camera for the situation. People give you dirty looks when they see someone taking pictures while they're eating--even though in this place the booths are high and the people in them are hardly visible. So I just did it and sat down figuring well maybe I got something of interest, maybe not. There's next time. We go there a lot.

The pics were bad. But roaming around with the crop I did come up with two abstract designs for abstract paintings. I favor the one with the wait person taking orders the best. I'll knock off a quicky this morning--see if it's worth a canvas? With my back still out, I have to paint sitting down so it'll be small. I might try the oils I picked up at the same time I picked up the tube watercolors. I've had oils on my list for quite some time. They do well used on top of acrylics for certain subjects--like those Mice.

When we got back from our night out, I wrote my second Haiku to commemorate our fifty first year under contract.Haikus poetry is appealing--the seventeen syllable thing plus the challenge of finding one syllable synonyms is a good vocabulary stretching pastime while watching so much bad television. The form also pleases my fondness for metaphor.

NO BOUQUETS.
NO CALLS.
BLISS UNCELEBRATED,
SAVE FOR TWO BLIND LOVERS.

There's been almost no time or energy for easel painting this past week of bad back and appointments. Yesterday, granite shopping in the driving rain; today, also gray, another welcome new client who wants a new kitchen. Bizzy bee me.Fall Woods, is too long on hold for medicinal purposes; Three Women needs attention,(Sadami thought they needed a lot of it), but they must wait too for the women who pay. So Haiku and quickies have been it. Tomorrow, who knows? I do. A floor plan will be my agenda. Could it be, I'm back to work a little more full time than I would like?

Absolutely. So what can I poeticize about yesterday's interruption?

IN GRAY RAIN
WITH BACK THAT ACHES,
CHARM FLOWS DESPITE.
PATRONS SMILE, ARTIST GROANS.

That about sums it up. I'm not a poet and I really do know it. But this short, sweet form of self expression is not only fun, but a very amusing way to journal.

  1. "bad photos"? who is to say that.. depends on your eye... I LIKE the first two alot... the blurred effect adds... the last one reminds me of a dream... I've seen a lot of photo blogs and there always seems to be one that has a few of these in their repertoire.

  4. Thanks Leovi. I was disappointed with the photos, but after poking around with the crop tool was quite intrigued by the abstractions I salvaged.
