This is the underpainting I did this morning. I used four colors, one color too many I think. Thalo green, a strong, staining pigment. The powerful strength of the color created the image upon which to build.
Underpaintings are like Rorschach tests--say what you see. I see hollies--with berries. When I go back into the painting that's probably the image I'll develop. Once said, I won't be able to shake it out of my head. Christmas in April. I'll keep in touch.
You're right, it's so Christmas-y! I like it a lot!

ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. I used the colors I use the most. Tomato Red is the color of our front hall. It packs a wallop for everyone who comes in. Thalo green, I once read, was shunned by artists,but I love the deep navy blue it makes when combined with violet. As for yellow ochre, I had an instructor who said it she wouldn't have it on her palette. Not me. It's a great mid range color for toning down compositions. Thanks for the wow.

ReplyDeleteThanks Evelyn, It did start out as as underpainting, but magically an image appeared. Other than putting in some defining lines, it looks like enough for me.--There is a risk of going back into it, I don't want to take at this time.
