Finally! Valentine Red Cupcakes

Actually,Red Velvet Cupcakes $2.95. That's what the sign in the display case window says in my working photograph. Today, if I were that bake shop owner, I'd change the sign.

Happy Valentines Day readers. If you saved your celebration for today, I hope it goes as you hope it goes. If it doesn't, then maybe it's a sign you're better off without the jerk and this holiday for lovers is as good a time as any to find it out. It's better to know who the jerks are before the relationship gets serious. Seriously, those cupcakes were a bitch. Then they came together with just a sprinkle of colored sugar.

This painting of pastries is actually three paintings in one: the caramel cupcakes,(they were a breeze); the red velvet cupcakes,(they were hell); and the chocolate mice,(won't be nice; they weren't before). Each pastry presents a different challenge with regards to handling the paint. The whipped cream was very difficult, because I wanted to duplicate the light in the display case. The showcase bulbs casted a number of different colored shadows and tints on the white mounds that I liked. Also, I wanted the illusion of depth. Had I not wanted to show the effects of the light and the depth of the trays, the whipped cream would have been a piece of cake.

Honey's only given me one valentines day gift in our years together and I don't think I've ever given him one. Oh, I do romantic dinners with zuppa de peche, I love you balloons and flowers, but aside from a yellow construction workers hat, a prop for one of our fantasies, I don't recall surprising him with anything. We don't do gifts. We're practical folks who know it all comes out of one pocket. Whatever thing we've bought close to a special occasion, that's the gift. For us,Valentines Day came early this year. About three weeks ago, my heart skipped a beat at Harrys in Cancun when they surprised us with cotton candy. I really do love cotton candy and especially when I get it when I least expect it after we paid the check. Romance for us is in the things we do for one another everyday.

MAY YOUR VALENTINES DAY BE AS SWEET AS MY MEMORY AND AS ROMANTIC AS THIS MORNING WHEN HONEY TOOK THE TRASH CANS DOWN TO THE CURB FOR PICK UP.

  2. Thank you Sadami. I do remember the time--it took me a while to realize you were asleep when I was up and visa versa. Stopped by to visit yesterday, but couldn't wake you. You had your comments turned off, (I do hope Google repaired that by now), I wanted to leave you a happy blog-versary greeting. In spite of the challenges--or because of the challenges--this painting (all painting) is fun--as is blogging.

  3. Dear Linda,
Thank you very much for your happy blog-versary greeting--my feeling is really beyond word.
Regarding a comment system, Google is not broken down or out of order.

Any comment does NOT straight away come up in my blog, unless an administrator = me, permits it.
Your blog seems to have chosen a different way? Check "setting" & "commnets" please.

    Kind regards, Sadami

  4. I left a message at your site. I did check. I chose not to monitor comments when I started the blog that's the difference between us. I can handle whatever flies my way from compliments to criticisms (which are definitely not unwelcome) to insults. I'm a big girl-- self confident and trusting in the folks who hang around art. Sticks and Stones...And if a nut comes along? "Delete."

  5. What an impressive looking cotton candy. My Valentine's Day was spent the plane travelling home for Malaysia to Australia. I was all alone... We don;t do Valentine's Day, and I forgot about it actually!

  6. Yes, a man that cleans toilets is much more endearing than one who buys flowers at the grocery store! ;)
