Telltale Sunset

We love taking photographs of sunsets on the beach, but what about the ones in our own back yards? We hardly notice those. They come and go without a glance.

Yesterday I did glance up and take note. The setting sun looked sad. It was a hazy spot of light in a dark, gray, bleak sky--telltale perhaps of the snow storm supposedly coming our way that was revving up the local weathermen to a frenzied pitch. The meteorologists just go crazy around here when there's a storm system in the area. It's their time to take center stage and shine. But what they really do is scare the hell out of me and everyone else with their sensationalized predictions of snow piled high, slippery roads, poor visibility and black ice. "Watch out for the black ice", they warn--the ice you couldn't possibly notice because you can't see it. I hate these guys. they turn me off. I turn them off. I'd rather follow the hints of the melancholy sunset telling me to bring those boots up, put some logs in the fireplace, tomorrow will be a snow day.

AND SO IT IS

THERE'S SNOW TO THE BACK OF US.

THERE'S SNOW TO THE FRONT OF US.

THERE'S SNOW ON ROOFTOPS THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HAIR.

This is the first real snowfall of the winter. It's beautiful--and looks like really good packing.

  1. Beautiful photos! I couldn't agree more about those pesky weather reporters (she types as she watches Local on the 8's). The snow hasn't hit here in East TN yet... they say it's coming. Enjoy your winter wonderland!

  2. Thanks Pamo, as soon as I saw the snow I reached for my camera. It looks like snowman snow--but first I'm putting up a big pot of soup.It looks like there's going to be a steady accumulation over the day. so I have time before venturing out.

  3. I love the view from the front and the top!. Is there another set of paintings going to come from these photos? So far our weather guy is right on.. They've been using a doplar radar for the past few years and so far have predicted right.

  4. Maybe the top one--that's pretty winter. But the snow is still falling. It looks like an all day affair.
Oh the meteorologists are pretty good with their predications--just who wants to listen to them play up how really bad the weather is going to be--it's like the idiot standing out in the hurricane showing us how he could very easily be blown away. we really just have to look out the window--or be able to read the sky.
