Eighteen Degrees, But Warm in The Woods

SUMMER WOODS IN PROGRESS

Rocking to Bob Seger on a bitterly cold day, my third session with Summer Woods went well. Even though I haven't worked my way into the warm colors, the forest is starting to look as lush as it is in summer. I love the Premium Gallery Canvas from Dick Blick. It's got such nice tooth, I'm refraining from painting as thickly as I usually do. I like the texture of the weave.

Before this year, I painted maybe one or two paintings a year and most years, none. This year, the blog has woken me up and energized me.

PAINTINGS ON CANVAS I HAD STARTED, BUT NEVER FINISHED UNTIL STARTING THIS BLOG:

PAINTINGS ON CANVAS I STARTED AND FINISHED IN THE PAST YEAR:

Out of the Closet, above, is a series of five canvases hung as shown. This photo of it compiled in Publisher doesn't do it justice. It is the best of show in my opinion. I find the concept interesting. The repetition of subject multiplied offers lots of options for future paintings.

Chocolate Mouse $2.95 is part one of three. I'll pick this up after New Years.

While I am most fascinated by the potential of the unit paintings, landscapes offer a nice release--particularly landscapes of wooded areas. The subject is so loose, the paintings allow for a lot of freedom in the painting process and are not demanding.
I'll carry on alternating these two subjects that demand two different styles. I like the balance. (As for portraiture, I'll leave that for works on paper every now and then. Honey sticks out like a sore thumb doesn't he)?

Ten new paintings finished in a year, plus three older ones completed, is phenomenal for me. Drawing everyday and having to show it to the world no matter what is what put that brush back in my hand. Drawing-of-the Day was one of my better ideas.

  1. U have accomplished a lot.. Should I guess that u don't mind leaving an unfinished project? and then coming back to it months later? Somehow, I can't do that... it would gnaw at the back of my brain!.

  2. It does. I was very pleased when I did finish them.

Making art in your basement with no feedback is a lonely activity--discouraging--probably why I didn't do it all those years. Blogging about the art you're making in your basement made the activity less so--and encouraging comments fired up my enthusiasm even more. --Your comments have been very appreciated.

  3. I would think your other half would add his 2 cents... Scrolling through your works here I definitely see a difference... All very unique!. I love your abstract ones- bright and not muted ..Your stacked tryptych one is really neat.. Have u ever done 3 separate ones where they can be hung in any order and still look like one piece of work?
