FINISHED!

The Maestro, Oil Grisaille, 16" x 20"

This is a milestone day. I finished the grisaille that's been on my easel since February!  The painting was quite the challenge, The guitar nearly drove me mad!  His shirt and pants were no picnic either.  Add to that my right knee that couldn't stand for long and needed days between sessions to quit burning--and a spouse who kept saying that looks finished to me--Morris was quite the trip.  Will I do another?  You bet.  Morris was a valuable painting experience; the Venetian method was the ultimate lesson in oil painting.

And there's more to learn, but not till my right knee is ready to stand at the easel.  That won't be till Fall when it will be fully healed from the makoplasty. Till then, graphite pencils will be the medium of choice.

Daily drawing really suffered these last days.  Morris and my knee weighed down my enthusiasm.
I did manage a few, which I noticed as I got closer  to finishing Morris, got more and more heavy handed and a bit wild.

    1. Thanks Kathryn. July 11th I am getting a Makoplasty--not a knee replacement, cartilage replacement. My bones are good. I have no cartilage. They still cut, however, and recovery is 12 weeks. So plenty stocking a living room cupboard with plenty of graphite pencils, watercolor markers and pads of paper. Waiting At The Gate will just have to wait; their flight has been canceled!

    3. 12 weeks till the knee can do everything a knee can do--bend leg so heel of foot touches buttocks, twist in dance, sit on floor legs crossed. Recovery for driving in a week, week and half. The big deal for me is to get off the heavy duty pain pills. They are the worst. Tylenol is my goal and just a lot of ice pack sessions as soon as possible. My impetus to have this op is to get back on my bike, to dance and paint, and to be able to wear heels on occasion. The lung op aggravated this knee, actually the whole leg. Made me much too sedentary and depressed over it all. I am looking forward to restoring my energy.

    1. My one bit of advice is don't wait. I waited seven years before doing the left knee. I waited three years to do this one. That's a lot of periodic discomfort, cortisone shots and back, hip and shin splint aggravation just out of fear. Bite the bullet! You are actually back to okay--driving, walking, etc.--in 10 days, by the time you go for your post op appointment. Then you go to PT for six or so appointments and you are more than fine. In 12 weeks you can wear the shoes you thought you'd never wear again. good luck to you Judy. Think good thoughts in the MRI, day dream about your favorite place--just a tip. ❤️🌞
