Mums The Word

Mums the word in the tropics--for the new flower arrangement in the room and the word on the beach that it does rain from time to time.   The umbrellas in the closet are a dead give away.  After a driving thunderstorm last night with strong winds, I awoke thinking it would be a painting day. I prepared to salvage the floral I had made a mess of yesterday and opened the blackout drapes for better light. Lo and behold there was sun, a bit hazy from the mist rising off the sea, but strong enough to make quick work of this sad watercolor, hurry into my swimsuit and head for the casita. Weather reports don't mean very much in the tropics. The winds are playfully unpredictable--just like wet into wet watercolor. This will be my last attempt till I'm in the comfort of my own studio where greater control than cropping reigns. The bottle of masking liquid in the cupboard is a dead give away.

    1. Have a wonderful time! People are streaming in the doors and the pool lounges are batting scarce. We're leaving just in time. Crowds are not us. The best gal I met this year was an artist from Las Vegas. She worked in watercolor. The few I managed to do this trip reminded me how much I enjoyed the medium, so I'll probably pick it up at home. I just ordered Carol Marin's Daily Painting. I'm looking forward to seeing your work in there. Bon Voyage.

    1. There weren't as many this trip as last. I think I had a milestone year filled with new approaches that pulled me deeper into the world of fine art.
You are a tremendous influence. I marvel at your daily work and your energetic participation in your art community. I envy your geographic location where art is so much a part of the city's culture. I would love to find something like that in my town. Enjoy your holiday and your good fortune.

    1. I really would have liked a few tips from you these past 3 weeks with WC! I did come away with two attempts that I like. One I will just frame up as a personal souvenir--the lady in the yellow hat--the other I may mat up and send the concierge who couldn't believe this guest who mentioned she painted actually could paint. I do love wet into wet watercolor, but after a year spent learning to control a medium, I think I could use some control tactics with WC. Thanks to you! I kept thinking of you every time the paint got away from me! Thank you for all I've learned from your posts. Happy holidays friend.
