Roth's Fabulous Half Time Extravaganza

The Chihuly Glass Museum is number one on the halftime extravaganza.

With half my color charts completed, I'm going to the Pacific Northwest for the half time extravaganza!

The fabulous lineup of entertainment includes the Joan Miro Exhibit at the SAM,  the Chihuly Glass Museum, a Crystal Mountain Gondola excursion up Mt. Rainier,  the Space Needle,  a Whale Watching tour in Puget Sound and the fabulous, rarely seen in Michigan this early in the season, Tulips in glorious bloom at the WU Arboretum. The festivities will be laced with galas of Roth celebrations-- PHD son's fiftieth birthday, our 54th anniversary (yes, we did sign up for another year),  and the Grand Gathering  of  The Clan who hasn't been together for nearly a decade!  No watercolors when my kin are around, just a camera and doodle pad and several pairs of walking shoes.

Joan Miro was another guy who studied color and form.

Half time  on charting, more or less.  Done: 1) Tube Colors; 2) Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue; 3) Yellow Ochre; 4) Cobalt Blue; 5) Terra Rosa; 6) Ultramarine Blue.

After the museums and lunch, Mt. Rainier from a gondola at Crystal Mountain Resort.  Ellis said he'd wait for us in the bar.
He's had enough snow and the hardships of winter.

Then down the mountain to the Washington University Arboretum to see the tulips in bloom, a flower that hasn't been spotted here in a year.

    1. Thanks Michael. I expect I'll come home energized after seeing Miro and Chihuly's colorful art and the spring blooms in the arboretum. Happy painting friend.

  2. I didn't think you took breaks? =) Well, if art is a break from what you are doing, or a continuation of it. =)
    Have a great sunday! =)

    1. Sometimes, you do have to come up for air. The best air is at the museums followed by a charming lunch at a bistro and a walk through the park.

    1. Family is the best reason to lay down the paintbrush and come away from the studio. It's been too long a while since we saw our PHD son in his habitat. Dale Chihuly and Joan Miro are the secondary attraction to the Pacific Northwest where the Rhodes, magnolias and dogwoods are in bloom, a nice change of view. Your watercolor landscape is fantastic. You got me very interested in that paper you were talking about. I'll have to give it a try. Beautiful work Rita. No armature you. :-))

    1. I know! You must be starved as I am to see color in the landscape. It's been a long, hard winter, but "they" say the harder the winter the more glorious the spring.

  5. Have a wonderful and exciting time - happy birthday to your son and happy anniversary to you and Ellis! 54 years is quite an accomplishment and I congratulate you! I am taking a break from painting and am traveling with my husband to Washington Dc later this week. We will see as many of the monuments that we can, the cherry tress in glorious bloom, the Smithsonian and, of course, the National Gallery of Art. Exciting times!

  6. Linda, you will be about 2 hours south of me. It is really beautiful at this time of year, and the weather forecast is great for next week. Perfect timing! If you have a chance, when you are in the Land of Tulip, head west to the coast to visit LaConner. It is a wonderful small, quaint town, FULL of galleries and shops. I did the tulip tour about 10 years ago, and loved it and LaConner. I hope you and Ellis have a fantastic time!!!!! I look forward to your photos and notes.

    1. I hope we get there, but we heard we're a week too early for the tulips, so we might skip the drive? We'll see.

    1. Thanks Celeste. It's looking like I won't make it to Portland. I'm disappointed, but family is vying for our time. It's wonderful. The weather is wonderful and it looks like all the things we've been planning to do, we will do. Everybody is willing. Next time.
