Three Days Later

Flowers Half Off On Sunday and Monday.

Sonflowers from my doorstep (not a typo, not a misspell, the truth).

The day after my symbolic gesture of throwing my hat into the art market! I celebrated my birthday buying flowers to paint. It being a Monday, the cut flowers were half price. I made a mental note for when I might want more. These gray days, painting flowers is quite therapeutic.

When I arrived home, I found I could have saved my dollars. A glorious  arrangement sat on the doorstep. They were sun flower perfect. With such an abundance of fresh blooms around, I'm set for a week or more with lively, colorful subject matter to prolong my watercolor period--IF I can only get away from this computer before they croak. I'm still busy ferreting out the ins and outs and ups and downs of Etsy and polishing written text with regards to policies, biography and why I paint the way I do.  Hopefully I'll tire of this soon and forget about mass marketing.  All computer and no painting makes Linda arthritic in the joints-- and the head. If you get a chance read what I wrote about why I opened my shop; it's the truth, but maybe too truthful?

I did tear myself away, this third day after the fact, for an hour to paint. The results were unfit for public display. Obviously I miss my lounge chair on the beach.  Nevertheless, I finally did dip a brush and splash some color standing at the bar in the lower level great room just a short distance from my studio doors.  Maybe I'll actually make it through  those doors tomorrow?

  1. Happy belted birthday to you, Linda! I just got back from visiting your Etsy shop and I am extremely impressed. It was a joyful experience to see so many of your small watercolors grouped together. The vibrant color and bold painting really catch the eye! I wish you the best of luck with many sales! Its seems like a very worthwhile endeavor and I look forward to hearing about your experiences with it over the next few months!

    1. Thanks Susan, the jury is still out. It's a job. I never really wanted art to become a job, but if one is going to keep painting, one must find an outlet for all the paintings that keep piling up. Selling was a practical decision and mass marketing is just one approach, but a good one for those of us who are over the hill. Online eliminates schlepping and when you're manning the store, you're sitting in the comfort of your home.

The flowers are so beautiful. Love the sunny colors at this drab time.

    1. Thanks. I am going to try. I almost did it yesterday, but drew the line on how much time I was spending fooling around with Etsy while those flowers were on the decline. You are absolutely right. The shop is time consuming, especially when you don't know what you're doing. The one good thing that has come from my adventure is that, I have organized those watercolors and have prepared them to be shown and possibly sold. Prior to, I was just throwing them in a file drawer for my kids to deal with when I run out of birthdays.
