Snow Day Two: Cancun Matted

I managed to paint twelve watercolors the seventeen days in Mexico; four were worthy of matting. Today, the second day called on account of snow, was a good time to cut those mats and relive our good time.

    1. Thanks JJ. If you're serious, it's yours for 832 pesos or 65 USD. Email me. BEACHWALK is the excellent name of the seaside restaurant at the JW Marriott in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. While others gaze at the sea, I gaze at them roasting in the sun with their noses in a book under the sign of the BEACHWALK. It's curious to me why people passively read when there's a glorious sea to be seen, waves to jump over, a beach to comb.

    1. Thanks Judy. I do think I see an improvement this year in my handling of watercolor. I also have always thought that matting a watercolor is an important part of the finish. It emphasizes the translucency and brings out the sparkle. It's the period at the end of a sentence.

  3. I know that I should use alternate materials, trying out new things. You are much better at it, and you have control with what you do. These watercolor paintings are lovely, especially the last ones with the floral motives.
I wish I had more time to just play around, loose some of the pressure that comes with time limits.

    1. Exactly. Freeing up with a medium that's not overloaded with solvents and color mixing chores may have benefits for freeing up on larger works? I hope so. I would like to have the same attitude with oils as I have with watercolors. I do with acrylics, but I do find mixing batches of the colors in a palette, time consuming and tedious. Once done, however, let the good times roll! :-))

Watercolor is a good sketching with color medium.
