Life Drawing

It's been a long time since I attempted drawing from a live model. And I've never attempted to draw a  live model constantly on the move with nothing more than a 3B Berol pencil. I wore it down in this very brief session on watercolor paper. Not expecting to use it at all, I didn't pack a knife or a sharpener either.  Nevertheless, the study was challenging and as such, fun.

More  fun was had on the sidelines watching part of the all day, six day, Indian wedding ceremony:   The arrival of the groom on the back of a dapple gray bedecked in jeweled saddlery. He rode a few feet down the beach to where his kin were gathered in all their finery. From there, with great fanfare, (to which I contributed an encouraging whoop or two that would impress Native Americans),  he lead them on foot up to a terrace of the hotel where the bride and her kin awaited.  Naturally, I took a few photos, but that was as far as I went. My friend went further. She didn't crash the ceremony, but she did play the peeping Tom to get a glimpse of the bride in a gorgeous hot pink sari encrusted with silver beading. My friend sews. She's not into photography. Pity.

I SLEPT THROUGH THE BREAK OF DAY. FROM THE LOOKS OF THIS SUNRISE PHOTO, THE UNADJUSTABLE IPAD CAMERA CAN'T TAKE A DIRECT SHOT OF THE SUN ONCE IT'S IN THE HEAVENS.

    1. The clothes were gorgeous! The horse was all decked out too in jewel be studded garb. The women who were so annoying on the beach the day before looked marvelous--and I loved the music, the hand waving and the hooplah. I do think the horse might have been over the top. The groom only road him for a few minutes and did look like he'd never been on one before. The guests looked elegant, but the sun on the beach was hot. I don't know how elegant they were by the time they got where they were going?

  2. Looks like a joyful wedding party.

If you figure out any good techniques for ipad photography, please share. I occasionally try to use it for photos and movies, but need to have ideal light for good results.

    1. I haven't had a chance to look up info on a traditional Indian wedding, but I suspect this one followed the tradition.

So far, all I discovered is that if it's too sunny a situation--like the reflective, sandy beach--the photo doesn't take. I get an all orange exposure. Then this morning, I got what I got. A lot of dark areas which were not. First time I noticed the shortcoming.

  3. One learn so much from figure drawing, I am glad you got the opportunity to do it. It is hard to find a good way to do it where I live. I would like to a class when I got time, but there isn't anything like that at the moment.
PS! You seem to have a pleasant time. I am sure it is good for you. =)

    1. I was thinking of taking a class too when we get home. Here everybody is either reading on their lounge chairs or on the way some place. It's had to find someone sitting up ad sitting still, but I'm on the out look.

It's a nice break after what seems to have been a hard year. My knee is improving everyday. The swimming helps. The miles of walking help.
