Painter's Block

Baby steps from the bed to the doorway and back. That was my first jaunt after surgery. I was thrilled
by my success on the second try. The first one was a total failure. My left leg just wouldn't do what my brain was telling it to. I had leg block, a first.  I had set myself up for it by okaying a pain block prior to surgery. Who wouldn't? Little did i know the trouble with pain blocks is they take time to go away. It's gone now just fourteen hours after surgery and it's time for the Ivee and the catheter to go too. This morning I hear.  This will not be a reference photo. It is a keepsake of a wise decision--or not?

    1. Thanks but that was yesterday and today is today. We're home. I'm a little grouchy. Pain has set in. The leg feels like lead. Moving it while at rest is a chore. Meanwhile we do have the right drugs and I've already succumbed to using them. The ice machine is the Godsend I thought it was. Poor Ellis is a nervous wreck. I'm not as nearly ,boiled patient he was hoping for.

I told you I'd lost weight as soon as I started eating lowest sodium. I wasn't kidding.

    1. Thanks Julie. What you see is someone on some very good pain pills strutting her stuff. Today, we're on our own I did so well at PT this morning. I should have moaned and groaned. Home isn't as comforting as it was at the hospital. Maybe we let them kick us out too soon?

  4. I wish you,dear Linda and dear Ellis,all the best SOON !!!
Deal with these moments is difficult ... I tried moments of well-being after surgery ... but soon returned home, nothing seemed to work more. There's something in what is given before and during the operation that is done to give strength to the patient ... but when the body gets rid of all this, comes quite the opposite.

In your photo everything looks fine ... but the battle is not hard for the warrior as the calm of the following day!
Indulge in all it has to come out of myself :fear, anxiety, worry.
It 'an important step for me. Avoid processing everything that is not good, for me, it can mean getting stuck in a situation even more difficult.... I need let me go to fear ,loss, worries after a courageous surgery performance,in order to heal better and quickly.

    1. All worry is in the past Rita. I did it. I chose to do it. It's done. Nothing left to worry about but getting that leg back in action. Day by day, recovery will happen.

    1. Me too. I have no other choice but to persevere. I know how to manage the stairs, but haven't attempted them yet. It may be a while till I make it down to the studio. The first great day will be when I reach for my pencils.

    1. Thanks Judy. I'm learning that looking great and feeling great aren't necessarily connected.

    1. Thank you Michael. What you see in this photo is my look of amazement. It was taken the evening of the operation. Who would have thought I could walk from my bedside to the doorway and back just hours from being cut up? There's hope.
