Flowers

It occurred to me yesterday that no one sent me get well flowers. So throughout the day, I dabbled this iPad drawing inbetween tossing restlessly on the couch and pacing around the house wondering how long this knee thing was going to go on.  I guess I was experiencing my age? I used to bounce back a lot faster than this and I guess I thought some colorful, fresh flowers would have lessened my disappointment in myself.  I think this iPad rendition of Lilies, on regular canvas backing, looks like it would make a good needlepoint toss pillow. I tried my hand at that once, but didn't like the feel of the yarn as it passed over my hand.

Returning energized from my first out patient physical therapy session today, I forgot about flowers. This is the second week anniversary of the surgery. I have good mobility. I was able to go trough the whole workout with little bitching. I have no homework to do tomorrow. I helped Ellis in the kitchen shredded cabbage. And I took another photo of myself to further explore the airbrush tool. Tomorrow, I think it's time to walk down the drive to get the mail. The fresh air sure felt good against my face as I waited for Ellis to get the car. I've had enough of being a shut in.

    1. I'm betting on it Agnes. We've got two tickets to Mexico with our names on them. I am a believer in physical therapy. The resistance exercises I've learned from several visits over the years have eliminated neck, back, shoulder and knee pain.

  4. Well as much as flowers are a lovely surprise and lift spirits at each glance, they also make us sad as we watch them wilt and die. Unfortunately, as well as my recouperation is going, there are periods of impatience, boredom and self pity. Yesterday was one of those days. Today, is quite different. Both knees can bend to the same degree while propping my feet against the ottoman. That's progress.

    1. I never look at flowers that way... the thought is what is important... after all everything goes... You self pity? I can't imagine that... seriously...

    1. You got it Rita! That's what I'm going for. The temps are dropping as they should around now, but are not unpleasant. We're in the low seventies with trees showing glorious reds and yellows. A huge, wild clump of those tall fancy grasses people in this Northern state are planting in their gardens as focal plants popped up next to the cattails over the summer by the drainage ditch. A gift of the wind, it's quite lovely and should look beautiful dusted with snow.

  8. Thanks Danielle. So far the iPad is the only medium I care to work with. Of the drawings I did with my finger, the self portrait came out surprisingly well. After that I think Stepping Stones, the square rendition, would translate well into paint. Maybe next spring? Physical therapy is my main interest at this time and the next two weeks are booked. I'll probably continue after that because I do want this knee as flexible and mobile as it was previous to surgery. The pain is less and less everyday and will be gone by the time I am discharged from therapy, hopefully forever. Ellis read this post and brought me flowers today. He is really a very special guy. I'm lucky to have stumbled into him at the age of fifteen and to have been smart enough to recognize that we were made for one another.
