Best Friends, A Portrait Study

Best Friends
Reference photo for
Best Friends

I ran in to these two young ladies at the lake and offered to take their picture. It came out well. The girls were thrilled--and so was my neighbor when I took her a copy. I didn't take the photo just to be nice, I took it because I spotted the magical relationship I once had with  my best girlfriend that lasted till she passed.
These young ladies had the same magic. It will make a lovely full figure portrait. (I loved their shoes). This was my first study of how their heads blend together inseparable. Note, I pulled out my graphite box for this sketch. It's been a while since I held a pencil; I felt a bit rusty. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant evening of  drawing as we listened to fireworks still filling the sky with dazzeling plumes of celebration.

      Hello, good Sunday!

Then I said first in English,"Yes. Their carefree, unguarded interaction with one another caught my fancy immediately. Then add the bright pink colors little girls are so fond of and their shoes, nearly matching and probably high little girls fashion, made them definite portrait material. Enjoy your Sunday as well."

Then repeated in Italian: "Sì.. Loro spensieratezza, interazione incustodito e con un altro ha catturato la mia fantasia immediatamente. Quindi aggiungere i vivaci colori rosa bambine sono così affezionato e le loro scarpe, quasi di corrispondenza e, probabilmente, di alta moda bambine, li fece materiale ritratto preciso. Godetevi il vostro Domenica come pure. "

  3. Extraordinary smiles of complicity and tenderness between girls ... You have captured the magic of a moment that after the camera, through your sign, has become art.

    1. Pure love I thought. With two heads posed as one, a get acquainted, free hand sketch to find shared points and planes is a helpful exercise--as helpful at thumbnails before beginning a project on canvas. Those are to come--but not till after JD's red shorts. The weather this weekend a has been so simpatico, I haven't wanted to spend time indoors laboring over values--thus my use of the pencil for this study. Thank you for your kind words Rita and congratulations for your budding art business success. It looks like you've found the right group for you, friendly and supportive. You will do very well. Everyone loves your flowers and bright outlook on life.

    1. I'm sorry my best friend passed too, I miss her, (as understaement). Though our relationship of over sixty some years definitely had its highs and lows--the passion patterns of love and hate, but angry words never ended things; they stimulated our continuing involvement with each other. She was the most intelligent person I knew. I respected her opinion, though often didn't agree, We had a very special thing, a gift. We met in Kindergarten. We were sent to sit behind the piano in the dark for talking too much in class. We didn't stop talking there either--or for the sixty some odd years that followed. These girls had that spark. I hope they keep it alive and burning. Real friendship is a real treasure. It's also a job, something worthy of work and compassion--much like marriage.

    1. Fair. The holiday was just fair. Weather was agreeable, my health was not. But drawing, as always, was uplifting. I think I chose to take a closer look at this subject because it's uplifting too. I think I'm going to gift the painting--if I ever do it--to the little girl on the right, my littlest neighbor in this neighborhood of retired folks. She's a ray of sunshine.
