Friday Sunrise

Worries are gone. It takes me a while to let go. The trip started rough with a bout of vertigo a couple of days before we left. Dizziness sends me up a wall. This Capricorn goat appreciates firm footings and when mine are not, I panic off balance. Thankfully, I'm blessed with a physician son and the smarts to pursue treatment. Today's the last pill. My head feels clear and the bit of waviness that's still present isn't anything I haven't had before in humid climates. Physically, my holidays should be spent in Arizona, not by the seashore. But I'm a swimmer and you can't swim in sand.

Some guy looked at this ten minute sketch of him chatting while drinking his beer in the pool and said, "you've got some talent." I thanked him while laughing to myself at what I didn't say, "this is shit. You should really see how I can use a brush." His wife came over to take a look, "It's better than I could do." Maybe plein air painting isn't for me? Too public--but telling the world about my Meniere's problem isn't. I need a few more days of R&R.

FRIDAY SUNRISE

  1. Dear Linda, Danilo has this problem and we are always prepared for the eventuality with appropriate medications! When the crisis comes on strong, I am always impressed how can reduce a person as good as Danilo state of a person who is unable to live a normal life!
With the right things does not last long!
Your work yesterday was very nice, I have not had time to comment on it, because I was busy with the preparations for the arrival of my daughter. This now is a sketch quick, but it is not easy to achieve this either.
The world of those who paints is often unpleasant. But you do not stop doing your work as you remain trained!
People go around the exhibitions, look at the paintings of other painters, and then judge
"I can do better" But they had not thought about it before seeing it done by others!
Hearing these words from people apparently right mind, I do not know whether to laugh or cry!
Envy is well established in the art world!
    Warm hugs and take care!!!Rita

    1. I sympathize with Danilo; I know his distress well. I am keeping a sharp eye on my salt intake, but it's not easy eating restaurant food everyday--and no fun. I cut the caffeine and no chocolate. Wine is fine, at least it keeps me calm. Oddly enough when I'm in the water, I'm fine--it's just the humidity that can push me one way or the other--but the Danilo probably has told you all the same things.

I thought the lady was being kind yesterday, but knowing what I know about making art and the struggle of making it, these remarks from laymen are both meaningless and amusing. We are a group unto ourselves.

    1. So far so good. That was no way to start a trip that involved planes and changes in cabin pressure. Whatever steroid my otologist gave me did relieved the fullness that builds up in your head and clogs the ear canals. Before last Sunday, I hadn't realized my "EET guy was a specialist called an otologist. I learned something. Thanks for your best wishes. I have my fingers crossed for the flight home. But I won't think about that now.

    1. I'm finding it difficult to zero in and simplify the landscape. I'll keep at it though. That's the only way to develop the ability. I'm planning on doing more of it in the Spring

    1. You made me laugh. How is it that I am so quick to put down my efforts when I really know damn well I have a great deal of ability? I do when meeting the public. Of course I also keep on painting.

  5. Linda: I am an art lover, collector, teacher, and student. You have more than "some" talent. Get some rest. I'm glad you're feeling better.

    1. JJ, I'm getting the impression you don't think I'm relaxing enough. I am and I am not. While I am loving where I'm at, this trip has pointed out my age. No sooner did I relax over the fluke vertigo bout, than my knee acted up. I'm sitting here icing it as I write--of course I could have over-taxed it cycling on my noodle twice as long as usual ever since I've been here, walking along the steep pitch of the seashore dodging the waves and climbing up a sand embankment like I'm a kid? On holiday, I am a lot more physical than I am at home. I enjoy that, but the price is getting more pricy: lots of ice sessions.

    1. Thanks Mick. I'm loosening up. I don't think I like the water colors or maybe the paper I brought. I can't lift the color as I usually do; and the colors aren't as vivid. Odd. These were expensive from the art store. Last year's were cheap from the grocery store. I'll keep on though. I much rather paint than bury my nose in a book.

  7. I'm enjoying this holiday of yours. Seeing all that sunshine is warming, you are so lucky. Shame about that shell the other day though, guess you couldn't have sneaked it in your case! Really like your paintings.

    1. It was huge! Really weighed fifteen pounds. I certainly didn't want to carry it, and Ellis would have absolutely refused. We gave it to a pool boy. He took it home to decorate his mother's garden.

    1. Danielle, please use your English. I have no access to my translation app from here and I have't met anyone from the Netherlands as yet--just folks from Japan, Ireland and England. It seems they have to travel this far to find warmth and sun. Hugs for your comments though.
