Don't Make Me Go!

Travel day Is a bummer, especially when you think about going through security and customs first here then there. By the time you walk in your front door, it's like you haven't been on holiday at all. That's why we're soaking it all in.

With clothes all packed, I'm at the pool soaking in last looks of the sea. I will probably take a swim even though I washed and dried my hair travel ready. Screw it. After today, there won't be any swimming till summer. How depressing is that?

Last night was like a going away party. All the people staying on the club floor were very friendly and talkative--largely due to a loquacious English couple and us. Before we knew it, we had pulled all the tables together and chatted and drank all evening long. The headache I woke up with this morning told me i had been less than wise, but didn't stop me from taking the last sunrise photo i'll have the privilege of taking for quite some time. I think I'll make a montage when I get home of these 13 glorious days dawning.

  1. It seem to have been a pleasant vacation and even if the weather will be not the same when you get home, at least you have X-Mas to look forward to.

    1. The sea and the beach is what keeps bringing us back year after year.

  3. We all need to win the lottery. Be very happy for the wonderful time you had. Its been at least 10 years since I've had a vacation as nice as you describe. My wife and I tried a relaxing weekend away this weekend and while it certainly had its very good parts it actually ended up seeming rushed and truncated despite our best efforts. I was as tired on arrival a when I left.

    1. Holidays are priceless Dan. As I paint, Ellis shops the deals at hotels. . Finding the best ones is his passion. Off season is key. Both hotels were nearly empty as everybody stayed home to shop Christmas. Hanukkah and Christmas for us was on the beach. Watching for the sunrise, watching a couple stroll along the surf's edge while pelicans were dive-bombing into the sea for their breakfast was priceless. Then she spotted a something in the sand. A seashell I guessed. He just stood and watched her excitement. She dusted it off,but it needed more. Into the sea she went to swish her gift clean while he just stood and watched patiently. Watching from our balcony, I laughed out loud at six ten in the morn. She reminded me of me with a good knee--and he reminded me of Ellis, stlill asleep in his bed. The memory of us young and fit seen through that couple in love on a Mexican beach before sunrise was priceless. Then there was my shell find--and running into the lovely young couple we met last year who own Little Golden Books, and the couple from Fort Worth we've met a few years in a row and seeing everybody was doing fine. That's priceless. Painting on poolside was priceless. All were worth Ellis' efforts over the year finding the best deals.

    1. It'll be some work Michael, but the photographs framed and hung in our bathroom to remind us of why we keep going to work the rest of the year will be a priceless stimulant.

    1. Sadder than you know. We came home to a flooded second story bathroom and ceiling damage in the bath below. What's life without balances.

  6. These photos, right now for me, are like water to someone dying of thirst. It is so wet and cold and dark. Thank you, Linda, for this little bit of sunshine. :)

    1. And the people who work there everyday take that beauty for granted. They would probably find my winter woods outback magnificent. :-)

    1. Merci.

In a nutshell, I told Martine we came back to a flood in much better frames of mind than had it occurred before we left. Life has a way of balancing the great with the not so great.

    1. Just in time to have them crash. Walked into a flood. No big deal, just put a damper on things. But life is a balancing act. Had it come before we went, it would have been a catastrophe. Today, it rolled off my back. :-)
