Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman 's nose needs more sculpting and the shape of her face isn't  quite right, but
it's good enough for now, I'm pooped.

Taylor might look like Wonder Woman--may even be wonder woman--but this woman is no wonder anymore. I did myself in getting the house back in order after the carpet cleaners and tending to the gardens in ninety two degree sunshine. I should have gone down to the lake.

And that's where I intend to spend my least favorite holiday of the year.Who knows when the water temp will drop below acceptable? You all take advantage of the Labor Day holiday too.  After this one comes Thanksgiving. We'll be wearing our parkas and plein air will be just a pleasant memory. How's that for a cheery outlook?

    1. This northern girl thinks Thanksgiving is the top of the slide down to hell! When the warmth of family has waved goodbye and we wake up from our turkey stupor, there's nothing left but dark and cold for months. We try to cheer things up with gaudy Christmas lights, but all we do is create strings of houses that could be mistaken for bordellos by guys stumbling home drunk on eggnog. In an effort to be jolly, we max out our credit cards to pay later for our frantic grab for cheer on sale. Bah humbug, I say to winter and parkas and gloves and boots. I'm not taking my paints anywhere there was glistening snow one minute, but black slush for months afterwards. December 21st, the shortest day, the Winter solstice, is my day to celebrate. Everyday from then on the light stays a bit longer guiding us to Spring and Memorial Day when we can once again slip into white shorts.

    1. She is sassy--and provocative--and innocent--and silly--never dull. I think she's the greatest thing since potato chips.

We paint year round here too, but not in sleet and snow. We're too busy delivering the mail.

  3. When I paint a face, there must be something that appeal me. I don't know if it true but in some ways I think I like or don't like a portrait depending if there is something appealing. Not saying that it must be a pretty/handsome face, but it has to pull me in. I did a lot of faces a few years ago, but right now I am not sure how I shall approach the subject with my new looser style. I know that I just have to dive into it some day.

That is one of the things that makes you awesome, your ability to work hard and you really do your homework. Have a great weekend.

    1. Of course. It's very difficult to paint a likeness anyway. Why would you want to paint one that doesn't interest you?

Taylor's personality expressed in her many get ups intrigues me. That's why I want to paint her. The way her expressions shift from innocent to provocative is fascinating and capturing those looks keeps me at the easel till I've got them down. She is much more interesting for me than landscapes and flowers.

  4. Now, this one I think reminds me of you. Not the features, but the look and the expression; is the 'I'm here and you know it. Lets dance, lets fight, give me a hint, I dare you!' expression and it's irresistible!
I'll be in Greece by Friday and with all my heart I can say I long for the heat!!!! But I don't do plein air, no sir-at least not yet :)
    Hugs.

    1. I don't do plein air either, I was just putting a scare into those who do. The idea of painting in a parka with gloves and snowshoes just doesn't appeal to me. I think Christmas cards with homey snow scenes are obscene. Why would I ever want to go out to sit in one?

Have a warm, wonderful time in Greece. If you bump into anyone named Chatzimouratido, say hello from Linda. They could be my son's in-laws. With no marriage vows planned in this life, I'll never get to meet them. I'll never get to wave to the people who climb up to see the Acropolis while I have an ouzo at the tourist info kiosk. I'm a Capricorn, but I'm no goat. Travel safe. Enjoy. Take climbing boots.

  5. I think you and I share the same sentiment about winter and winter holidays. Best spent in the warm sun, somewhere where they don't celebrate those holidays.
