An Off Color Poem By Willie Nelson

I came home from lunch with friends to find this e-mail in the inbox. It made me smile, for it touches on reality. But the reality in having a successful old age is to not take yourself too seriously and to laugh about what once was and what now is. (I had a little wine. Pour yourself a glass and read).

> "I have outlived my pecker." > > > A Poem - by Willie Nelson > > > My nookie days are over, > > My pilot light is out. > > What used to be my pride and joy, > > Is now my water spout. > > Time was when, on its own accord, > > From my trousers it would spring. > > But now I've got a full time job, > > To find the fuckin' thing. > > It used to be embarrassing, > > The way it would behave. > > For every single morning, > > It would stand and watch me shave. > > Now as old age approaches, > > It sure gives me the blues. > > To see it hang its little head, > > And watch me tie my shoes!! >

Today was not a painting day. I went shopping and out, cavorting with friends. Happy weekend.

  1. Ha, ha, ha! Ain't that the truth! We criticize the young for sex and then take Viagra to play catch up! Mine was stolen and I am on the lookout for a bunch of hardened criminals!

    1. Oh the joys of aging. If only there had been a manual--now there's something to write about.
I think those were the same thieves that stole my Estrovan. Last I saw of them, they were headed for the desert.

  2. Willie is a hero. Throughout his writing life he has had the facility to produce pithy words to tell the truth.

  3. By the way the picture would make a great portrait.

    1. That photograph is a great portrait. Love Willie Nelson and his pithy words. No messing around with metaphors for him; just shoots straight from the hip--in this case groin.

  4. He's lyin' --little feller hasn't shaved in years.

    1. Too funny then. Too funny now. But the warm foot and soft hand of a lifetime mate beats the hell out of shaving; it's such a mess.

  5. That photo should be a charcoal piece! Just saying.... cute poem, too!

    1. Funny too Katherine. That photo would make a great charcoal, but not today or tomorrow. Willie Nelson is someone I'd rather go to dinner with than draw. I'm crazy about guys with a great sense of humor, candor and the talent to put it all together. I guess I'm crazy about Mr. G who sent me this poem. He knows a laugh a day keeps the doctor away. Wait a minute, A poem about dicks sent to me by a guy named Dick...hey, that's pretty cute too.

  6. Now, that's what I call a (not)serious approach of a (un)funny reality. If we take ourselves too seriously the only thing that we'll gain at the end is more wrinkles :-)
    Hugs.

    1. That's exactly what I liked about Willie's poem sent to me by my friend Dick. We can take art as seriously as we want, but should definitely laugh at ourselves for doing so.

  7. Happy weekend.

Cool breeze, glass of tea, twice-baked cookie, feet up after a just long enough walk--aging has it's perks today.

    1. Sure does. Rain then sun. Lunch then nap. Swim then dinner. I just wish I was thinner. God I love Alexander's carrot cake!

  9. Laughing makes life beautiful, and be able to laugh at yourself is great!
It 'was a nice weekend! My husband has finally relaxed ... For a man accustomed to work, get the idea of being on vacation and not having to work is difficult ... but I have a special talent for sweet idleness!

    1. It sure does and laughing at yourself is key to being a regular fellow. Everybody likes people who don't take themselves too seriously. Even the people themselves. Start thinking you're hot shite and you'll make an ass of yourself for sure. (Obviously, off color poems bring out a little crassness in me). Shame on you Linda!

Women are better at relaxing than men; they have a hard life being the man in charge of the family's well being and need time to unwind. Three days should do it.

  10. I did a Google search - Willie Nelson really did write this!!? Amazing. I venture to say it will be his most famous work, surviving him long after even his willie is gone.
