Ba-dee-a, Ba-dee-a, That's All Folks

Time to take a picnic down to the lake. Maybe do a watercolor of a bucolic scene with  a pretty lady in a grand hat and flowered frock sitting on the lawn with two naked guys? I'll call it...let me see? Menage et trois sur l'herb. Put the right twist on Manet's fantasy. Anyway, paint a relief painting. I've had enough of this study. It's as good as it's going to get.

  1. Not sure what changes you did in the end, but I think you did a great studie.

PS! Nice to see that you know some Swedish music.

    1. I thought John Simlet had a point. But the neck was not too thick; it just wasn't angled right by his ear. I also cut the thickness by working the other side of his neck into the dark background. I added shading to the lighted side of his face to narrow it down and delineated a jaw line where he really has none that's strongly visible. I elongated his chin and worked on the values there. That area is still not great, but it'll have to do. I did move closer to a likeness. Children have soft faces. They still have baby fat and their bone
structure isn't visible yet, just suggested. In a nut shell: I gave him a bit more structure.

The Alcazars are a Swedish group? I didn't know that. I just figured for sure some band made a song about Menage et trois and that would fit the bucolic painting I won't be painting this afternoon. Alas, I don't have a grand hat and flowered frock.

  2. I think the hat and frock sound lovely; sad to read you don't have them.

Enjoy your frolic, nonetheless. Sounds very Jules et Jim.

    1. Alas my last floral frock went to Goodwill some years ago, my temperament had neutralized. A woman of age in white pant suit with vest--with two, nude young Greeks might upset--maybe change the woman to a Cougar and keep the fantasy under my hat?

    1. Thank you Kathryn. My hatching could have been stronger, but my graphite accumulation was over the top. Enough. Portrait of a boy is officially Portrait of a Boy. Now, for a portrait of the boy I'm after.

  4. Votre pique-nique est un scandale.

    1. So was Manet's painting. LOL. I copied that painting loosely when I first got back to painting and hung it behind the family bath door. When my son and his lady came to visit, she shyly asked me. "What's with that painting in the bathroom?" I said, "I have no idea. We'd have to ask Manet what he was thinking." I think the painting is scandalous, but Manet got the manage et trois all wrong. To each their own picnic. LOL

    1. No, the nana and the father don't think there's a likeness and refused to pay. I'm going to have to keep at it. But thank you for your encouragement Jane. I appreciate your support.

    1. I don't think so. I've got it as my wallpaper and it's an okay portrait of a boy. You wrote on the 2nd. I'm replying on the 4th. I've had two days to look at it and decide it's okay--not JD, but it's a face that would work if some wizard brought it to life.
