Thirty Little Piggies and Other Wildlife

Thirty little piggies pummeled and polished. Can you guess which one had stars on thars?

Jon heads towards the club cars of the Taubman Family Express.
The Taubman family is one of many generous, civic minded families
who take pride in Mo Town (Detroit). The Detroit Zoo was the first
in the country to house animals in their natural habitat.

Off to Africa!

There's something in the bush. ( And example of natural habitat enclosures).

By Golly! It's a Rhino. Got it with my first shot!

Clever fellow. The lion played dead--or was he smarter than me and napping
on a hot afternoon?

Jane Goodall would be proud. The gorilla told me all his deepest secrets

And the sweetest shot of all: a JD kid, from the California San Jauquin Valley.
This is portrait material. The photo didn't come out as sharp as I  would have liked,
but the pose is just so twelve year old boy.

    1. Rain get lost, here comes JD. He's just the right size for that canvas. I think I have some soaking and more scraping to do? But I have loads of head shots and I like his body language and my view of it. Need a few warm ups.

      Want a raft? I'm a landlubber.

    1. You would think so. Not so. Kelly and Erin didn't pay attention to where we told them we would meet, didn't have a cell phone and got lost. We were separated for well over an hour. What you see of the zoo is what I saw. The rest of the time we stood in the shade and watched parades of humans. Plus it was an odd weather day: broiling hot in the sun, sweater chilly in the shade and there were miles to walk across the Serengeti back to the car. I tried to thumb a ride with a zookeeper, but he told me I had to pass out first.

    1. Gracias Sofía. Es un placer tenerlos aquí. Hemos ajustado para tener a cuatro personas más en la casa. No se han adaptado a tener dos niños muy activos en todo. Abrazo de vuelta.

Thank you Sophia. It's a pleasure having them here. We've adjusted to having four more people in the house, but not to having two very active children. Hug back.

    1. Kathryn I forgot how you're on 24/7 when there are kids around. Their energy and curiosity is astounding and exhausting. Add that to miles of uneven terrain, a proud woman with bum knees who refused to take a scooter (for fear of killing some innocent pedestrian), blistering heat in the sun and chilling cold in the shade and I'm surprised I survived the zoo. I am really out of condition and have to shape up big time. BUT THESE FEW PHOTOS I SHOTS WERE WORTH THE DISCOMFORT. What we do for our art!
