Sleeping With The Fishes

Waterlily on the stove, a souvenir of a traumatic experience

I thought waterlilies would be  decorating my watery grave, as I struggled to tow my stupid idea back to the dock against a powerful squall and got nowhere. I was swimming in place and my strength was depleted. I yelled to Jon to come get me and then worried about him having to swim all that way. Of my three guys, he wasn't the best swimmer, he was the best defense/offense tackle. I should have put a noodle in the boat. I should have stayed in the boat. Instead, I abandoned ship thinking I was still thirty and a strong swimmer. Stupid. My arms and hands are still shaking  from over exertion.

I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A BBQ

I christen thee: Linda's Stupidity

MY HERO

Jon jumped to my rescue.

CONCLUSION:  NO RAFTING ON A WINDY DAY. WHO KNEW?

    1. Very! I insisted that we needed a boat. I had this fantasy of rowing around the lake on lovely summer mornings and watching sunsets mid lake. I have a bit of the romantic in my personality. After we inflated it, launched it and the kids took it for a successful maiden voyage, I thought I should give it a try with not a single thought that I would fail. The foolhardy thing I did was to dive out of the boat thinking I could tow it back to the dock. Later at home when I tried to draw, I couldn't. My arms and hands were shaking from the strain of rowing; I couldn't control my strokes. Really dumb OR a sign I am aging kicking and screaming. LOL

  3. Me too. The whole event was very scary. When I get back on the horse, the lake , it will be a day with no breezes and the lake will look like a mirror. Thank you for your concern Casey.

    Welcome Home!
    Sincerely,

    1. I thought so too Gary. I've been taking candids all along collecting heads. I could take a few lessons from you, you are terrific and meticulous. I'm okay and gestural( sloppy by some people's standards).

Now you tell me! Having not paddled a boat in sixty one years, you do forget the ways of the waves and the strength of water in wind squalls. I learned the hard way.

It's to my advantage and pleasure to follow you.

    1. You and me both. --As I was side stroking against the wind, I noticed what a gorgeous color pattern the wind squall made on the water interlocking Paynes gray unadulterated by white with ultramarine blue with just a tad; a thin line of white outlined the forms of the waves. Beautiful. Now that my arms and the hands attached have stopped shaking, I might be able to make a color note of that? I have snatched my pastels out of the bar. I was missing having color at my fingertips.

    1. You better believe it. I was thrilled when he got to me and told me to lay back, hang on and he'd pull us back to the dock. I listened. I was exhausted. What a stupid ass I was.

  7. That sound scary, glad you are OK. I think we are all lacking knowledge about how our bodies will response in a situation. Our bodies are getting older, but I am still young in mind.

    1. Me too. I obviously have delusions of invulnerability. No longer. I must add though that it's imperative to keep up (and maybe step up) resistance training. Push ups are a good thing. My stamina seemed strong, unfortunately the wind was stronger.
You know what they say about all brawn and no brains? That's a woman who thought she could battle Mother Nature just because she could bench a hundred pounds. STAY IN THE BOAT.

  8. OK let me explain the do nots of water colours.
You don't actually have to get into the water.
You certainly don't need to get out of your depth! A jar of water will do...

    Phewwwww!

    Let's hear it for Jon!

As my doctor explained to me, when I fell off the roof, my joints are not as young as I think I am... do take care, Linda .... please.
