This is how I really see the bog. It's not a pretty place. It's a muddy umbra spot, a hopscotch puddle that once connected our little lake to the pond beyond these trees. I weeded out a lot of brush and blurred out trees. This one would have made a good oil painting. The reference photograph can stand on its own.
What was satisfying was using the Masterson Acrylic palette box with sponge liner and disposable paper. The colors squeezed from the tube and mixed on the paper stayed wet since I first showed you this little relief painting. I've returned to the palette system for acrylics because the acylic palette I had premixed and stored in small food containers had run out. I haven't felt like mixing new batches.
Fun to watch this bog fog blog painting as you work with it.
ReplyDeleteI did a pond with reflection yesterday, too.
Thanks Casey. You know, I'm still thinking about that primarily symmetrical painting in your last post. It's firmly grounded on center with the tree and the blue rectangle, but it has asymmetrical interest in the pull of the yellow against the pull of the green. I didn't leave a comment, because I was busy thinking. Flowers in a vase often present too symmetrical, compositional problem--and that's why I mostly look for a different viewpoint--put my nose right in them? It's common for artists to throw the symmetry off with cast shadows--maybe it's foreground and background interests that should be examined?
DeleteHello Linda, to me you have been able to catch perfectly the atmosphere of the pond. Very nice painting indeed! I like it. Ciao.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tito. I wasn't too sure about this one. It kept getting muddier and muddier--till it looked just like a bog in the woods. I stopped then and there.
Deleteomg, your profile pic is back in the right place... thank G. it worked out...I love your version of the bog, that hint of brown just adds that touch..
ReplyDeleteYes, I managed that myself simply by deleting the picture in Blogger Profile and uploading it again. After I figured the feed had been broken and that's why the images weren't coming through, I figured the same thing happened to the profile picture. It needed to be reset. I don't know, brown is so brown. Maybe I should have left it in enchanted colors? LOL
DeletePerfectly rendered Linda, very true to reality..beautifully done. Wish you a pleasant Sunday :-)
ReplyDeleteNo Jane, thank you BUT the rendering leaves a lot to be desired. I'm still struggling with a personality that loves broad strokes and the brush size limitations of a small canvas 9 x 12 inches. I don't know how you all get along so well with those little surfaces.
DeleteGreat looking bog...You have an affinity for beautiful patterns
ReplyDeleteBogs are fun. You're right about patterns. I think that's the designer me. I'm fascinated by how things relate to one another and interlock.
DeleteBeautiful! Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about beautiful; shades of gray is more like it. Let's all of us have a brighter day.
DeleteI'm bummed. I left a long comment for you that didn't take apparently. I think the bog is excellent - very impressionistic, subtle strokes, atmosphere. I have a Masterson palette box. It works magnificently - no more wasted paint, my biggest complaint about acrylics gone.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan.Isn't that box terrific! They came out with a yellow sponge sheet that fits and goes under the palette paper. The sponge was an improvement since I originally bought the box a few years ago. It really is wonderful. You soak it and the paper in hot water for fifteen minutes. Wring out the sponge, trim it if it needs it, put it in the bottom, damp paper on top and the paint for this painting--not just the dollops I squeezed from the tubes, but also the colors I mixed and nearly used up, stayed workable for five days. I think that's amazing. The lidded box, also works with the oils though not as well. Closed airtight, it keeps the paint for three days. A sheet from a disposable oil paint palette pad fits into the box--just in case you want to give oils a try and aggravate yourself like I'm doing. LOL
