This is not a detail. This is a close up and serious study of an ear done in oils. It's "pasty white" and the form needs perfecting, but I'll keep working on it over the weekend. I want Erin's ear to look like an ear that hears and not just an impressionistic suggestion that she has one.
Meanwhile lend an ear to a song written by Benny Cash and performed by Evil Twin playing a wonderfully bluesy guitar and singing in a dining room. The video only had 97 views on YouTube, but it deserves to be heard.

ReplyDeleteThis ear is perfection Linda! Actually I think ears are interesting, so many different shapes and sizes . Super performance from the 'Evil Twin' could just as well have been on some fancy stage!
ReplyDeleteThe ears have it Dan. They are the devil--aside from hands and feet. the other body parts we try to get away with a dash here and swipe there. I had to take a closer look and see just what's going on there. In an attempt to get acquainted with tiny canvases I bought a mess of small canvas boards for quickies. This was a relatively quicky. Mixing the oils was what took the time and I did a bad thing: I drew the ear in pencil--which picks ups when you put down the oil. The road is just full of bumps.
ReplyDeleteNot quite Jane--color is off, pasty gray and not rosy enough due to drawing in pencil first. I'll have to think about what to use to draw in the form that won't mix with the paint. Water soluble markers, I suppose. You can expect to see more of these studies though. I bought a slew of small canvas boards to get the feel of small. Small seems the way to go with online art if sales are on your mind. And they are are mine.

ReplyDeleteThe ear is just okay Kyla. I'm pretty sure I could do a better job in pencil, but I'm also teaching my self about oils, so the going is a bit trickier. Thanks for commenting. Thanks for following. I'll stop by soon.
