A Painting is Leaving The Nest

GAILLARDIA, 36" X 36", ACRYLIC ON PREMIERE STRETCHED CANVAS, 2003

After hanging on my "Works in Progress" wall since I finished it in 2003, Gaillardia, Honey's favorite, is leaving the nest for the destination I had in mind when I finished it. I didn't send it back then--I wasn't really sure I had gone as far as I could go--and shipping this size canvas is nothing to be sneezed at. So it hung around for a few years.

My kids have been hanging around together for a few years too--long enough to have a couple of fabulous, gorgeous, highly intelligent kids. Their twelvth anniversary is coming up on the 26th. I think it's time to ship it off. Of course, this is a risky move. Will they like it? Will they want to hang it anywhere in their house? Gifting one's art is risky business. Maybe I should give it a second thought?

  3. Thanks Robert and Victor. I needed some bolstering. I tend to under value my own work when I'm giving it away for free--maybe it isn't good, maybe it isn't worth anything--weird stuff goes through my insecure head. The best reassurance came from Honey, who said I have to paint another one because he's going to miss that one. You know that's not going to happen. It's a done deal; it was just carried out the door.
