Landscape Artist Get the Most Google Searches

--Did you know that Lee Rowley,(author of the book I was telling you about, wrote that the art category for the most Google searches was landscapes! So why am I knocking myself out painting all these flowers? Because flowers are delightfully colorful and paint is about color; they are also the easiest to have around the studio in seasons where plein air is out of the question. This maybe the last flower painting, maybe not? The roses my son and family sent for my BD live on limp and dry. The water evaporated from the vase three days ago. I'm finding them to be a nice relief from figure drawing. Dead, they are still the gift that keeps on giving paintings-- till the weather changes and landscapes become more attractive. I hung Winter on the observation wall and the temperature in the room dropped ten degrees! That's enough winterscape for me.

Have a lovely weekend everybody. Spend it doing something you love with someone/something you love. I'm spending mine with a gorgeous, strokable charcoal paper that just arrived UPS. It's time I move my figure beyond the study stage. If I don't, that sweetheart could be a toddler when I feel satisfied enough to reach for the canvas.

  1. Landscapes huh? My guess is sunsets are pretty popular too, just a guess.

  3. Sunsets weren't listed. The second biggest search was for country music. I can understand that; I like country and have searched. I have to see when this book was published. For all I know, the statistics could be ancient. Have a good weekend too Agnes.

  4. Thanks Celeste. I see flower bouquets as bursts of color. I like doing them free-hand--with no constraining lines--to keep the colors moving, exploding, and the painting lively. Flowers in a vase, drawn first then painted can be too static.

  5. Oh Linda, keep painting flowers as well as landscapes and portraits. You are so talented, do it all. And flowers especially this time of the year are so beautiful, it's a promise of spring to come.

  6. Linda , my favorite subject are flowers, just love to paint them, and even if I do landscapes too, most of them end up in the waste basket :-) Your flowers are so full of color, vitality and enthusiasm, hard to express that in a landscape! Wish you a nice week end.

  7. I can't tell you Joan how funny it is that I am painting flowers. I REALLY did groan when I walked into my painting class years ago and saw a bouquet set up. I was just learning about paint and painting and flowers seemed to be way beyond my skills; they were too beautiful. With that mind set, my painting was awful before it even began! And in those classes it was! Now,flowers are an "easy" subject. They are available at the market. They are colors. They are forms and lines. I see them. I feel the movement. I paint what I'm seeing and feeling. All the shoulds of my art education that intimidated me are gone. I think from blogging a drawing, good or bad, a day.

This reply is over-the-top I know. But I am thrilled at my new attitude. It's taken years to acquire it.

  8. I don't like bucolic landscapes very much either Jane. I like beachscapes with the waves crashing into the sandy shore and that luscious dark indigo blue line on the horizon where the sea meets the sky--and my woods filled with obstacles I like to paint up close and personal. I also like cityscapes, but haven't done one in a while. You'll never find me out in the country painting a field with a grove of trees and hills fading into the mist. It's too quiet. I don't see the power. If I'm not at the beach or in the city or pondering the intersection of the lines of the woods that fences my yard, I'm painting flowers. I'm with you; flowers are a joy for the picking.
