Daffodils in Winter? You've Got To Be Kidding!

Yet, here they are.

I spent the weekend contemplating my new year's resolution. I concluded: More paintings on canvas this year--twelve would be reasonable given I completed eight in 2011. My plan was not to post anything till I had a finished painting to show you.

Then, what do I do my first day back in the studio? This watercolor of daffodils from a photo of mine that I grabbed from a stack that should have been filed away months ago.

I was straightening my watercolor cabinet. A piece of blank watercolor paper was inviting. I grabbed the photo and did this one using both the tubes and the pads--and my favorite watercolor style: wet into wet, no pre-drawing, very spontaneous. On this second year anniversary of this blog, the little painting, approximately 10 x 10 inches, marks a new direction. I started the blog to commit myself to doing a drawing a day; It seems I've moved on to painting watercolors spontaneously and acrylics more seriously. And so we grow.

  2. Daffodils are very special flowers. Painted by so many artists. You did a very good job in this painting. I mean it. It's really good. I like this style. Please do more spontaneous work like this. I wish you a wonderful 2012 with a lot of creativity and joy!

  3. I like it Linda. Yes, definitely more Watercolours and Acrylics please. I`m glad that you will be showing your completed paintings only, and not in stages, it was confusing me. All the best Linda.

  5. These daffodils were very special Joe. This city gal risked her life hiking deep into the woods to see just what the yellow patch visible from my second-story window, was. I picked a bunch to show Honey; he'd never believe I braved the wild terrain crawling with creatures if I didn't bring some back.

  6. Victor, you weren't the only one who was confused. A lot of people seemed to have missed "work in progress," and thought the first stages were the finished painting.

  10. I'll do my best Robert--and occasionally my worst--but then is any drawing/painting ever beyond saving? I don't think so. Happy New Year to you too!

  12. Victor I won't. I think the comments can be more interesting than the blogs, for they offer the viewer an opportunity to persuade the author to expand on their methods, ideology, philosophies, etc. Unfortunately, most comments are flattering small talk made to entice the author to comment in like on the commentor's blog page, which is the polite thing to do,of course, but the discourse between artists could be so much more informative.

  13. Well, I think your spontaneity is perfect for watercolor. And you are too hard on yourself with acrylics... but then we are all our own worst critics.
