Merry isn't Merry
This is a sad woman. I named her Merry. I thought it would cheer her up. It didn't The palette stayed blue. Maybe tomorrow?
I don't think I get just what an underpainting is. I'm going to have to go back and read the book--skip ahead and see what one is supposed to look like. When I get started, I just keep associating with the marks and developing them intuitively. I don't stop for drying time. I stop when the paper has had enough; the wet into wet image has had enough; I've had enough. You can see I like the subtractive technique. You can see I don't care if there's any white left on the paper. You can tell I'm an acrylic painter warming up with watercolor.
The last free association was happy holly or sycamore leaves? This one is sad and probably personal? The result of a day spent shopping no doubt. I hate spending money on clothes when I have them. But they don't fit, shit--is that a Haiku? I think so.

You know what? I LOVE IT! It's very, very good. I can't stop watching. I mean it. Extremely expressional. THIS could be part of a famous art exhibition!
ReplyDeleteI agree w/Joe.. There is some darkness all over which I am guessing is the mood u were in? Shopping can be a p.i.t.a. at times.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. Thanks Chrissy. When I do these sorts of paintings I scare myself. They're very primal.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hallie, This is pure me.
ReplyDeleteI am with Joe and Chrissy.
ReplyDeleteDear Linda,
ReplyDeleteThe face expression is very interesting. Probably, our painting reflects our inner world like you imply. Just have fun.
Cheers, Sadami:)
Agnes, Thank you. Joe was very kind and Chrissy was very right. Shopping can be the pits when one is not happy to be doing it. How lucky I am to have art in my pocket to express my ayer.
ReplyDeleteSadami, art is expressive from the moment we decide what to paint and how to paint it. It's a marvelous tool I am thrilled to have in my pocket. I know you feel the same. Today, angst; tomorrow, exhilaration; the next day who knows? Art is also journalistic.
I am reading your post in reverse, so I see what you have done with Merry. Merry is merrier in the last post.
